In spite of less investment than the men's team, the Thai women's team clinched fifth place in 2014 AFC Women's Asian Cup held in Vietnam which qualified them for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, Thailand's first ever participation in a FIFA World Cup (men's or women's). Due to Thailand's successful campaign in the AFC Women's Asian Cup, the Football Association of Thailand announced that they will give more investments in order to build Thailand's first Golden Generation.
